And Then There Were Five

Today’s adventure to see Harry Potter almost didn’t happen - my father, God bless him, locked his keys in the truck - which wouldn’t have been an overly big deal, except he had just made a run to the grocery store and all the groceries were locked in his truck. So just before I had planned on heading to the theater, I had to drive and pick up the spare key from my mom. I’m surprised I didn’t get a speeding ticket.
But anyway, there were, maybe, 30 people who came to see the movie, which was perfect because I wanted to enjoy Order of the Phoenix without too many distractions. And I must say, despite the fact that I was sure I would be disappointed based on movies 3 & 4, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved actually. And it’s not that I didn’t enjoy Goblet of Fire and Prisoner of Azkaban, but I felt that they sacrificed story line for the sake of making them look pretty. Order of the Phoenix, while not without its plot holes, did a decent job of doing both. The feel of the movie was closer to Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets which made me very happy - Order of the Phoenix is a much darker movie, of course, but it still managed to maintain a balance of light and dark without being comical.
My only reservation about Order of the Phoenix was Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange. I adore Carter, and while she didn’t have much screen time, I spent half of that time enjoying her take on Bellatrix, and the other half cringing. I’ll save my final verdict after I see the movie again.

It’s not a perfect movie by any stretch of the imagination - It’s the shortest of the Harry Potter movies, but the longest book. There is much that they left out or changed. I still stand by what I’ve always said: starting with The Prisoner of Azkaban, they should have made two movies for each book because there is so much information. One of the reasons I liked the first two movies so much is because they were able to stay pretty faithful to the books - a hard feat to do when the books are so long (a hard feat for Hollywood, period.)
I hope you enjoy Order of the Phoenix, though.
