Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I’ve avoided writing a review of sorts about the new Harry Potter book - mostly because of the spoiler issue. Even though the book has been out for 4 days, I want people to have time to read it without having to worry about stumbling across information that may not have gotten to yet.
But I will say that I loved it and think it is, by far, the best book of the series. It was far more fast-paced than the previous 6 in terms of action - I got lost in some of the twists and turns and had to go back for clarification (which also added to my reading time of 6 hours and 40 minutes - otherwise I would have been done much sooner.)
I’ve been laughing at all the people who go on and on about how the Harry Potter books aren’t “literature.” (After I finished reading the book Saturday evening, I spent some time online perusing comments, etc…) That particular attitude always reminds me of two things - 1 - ridiculous snobbery and 2 - something that Stephen King said about his writing being like chopped steak as opposed to filet mignon (I could have the actual comparison completely wrong - my memory isn’t what it used to be) and that sometimes you just want chopped steak as opposed to filet mignon. And how true that is. The books, for all their fallibilities, are an absolute joy to get lost in, and there is nothing better than that.
I’m sad that the series has come to an end, but, with the exception of a few lingering questions, Rowling wrapped everything up. It’s amazing, the world she created, and one I’m going to miss terribly. Even though I read quite regularly, I’m not sure if there will be another series to capture my imagination as much as Harry Potter.
At least not for a while.

Good post! I think Stephen King is also the one that said HP quickly passed from “children’s literature” to just “literature”. So, she’s not the best author that ever lived—her creativity and her heart speaks louder than the rest! I loved DH!

Thanks for stopping by, ohamanda! And for the additional quote (of sorts) from Stephen King - now that you mention it, I seem to recall hearing that at some point.
Personally, I think people occasionally get all wrapped up in in the complexity of things (books included) and forget that sometimes simplicity does the trick quite nicely.
