I Have (Apparently) Arrived!

By Keiti | October 22, 2007

I’m going to make this quick because I just walked in the door from work and I’m exhausted, but I have to tell you a link to my post about *gasp* (again!) Dumbledore being outed by J.K. Rowling was listed on a Christian site as fodder for those who (imho) need to get their head out of their asses.

Now, those of you who know me, know I don’t really give a damn about what other people think - especially if I don’t know you.  I know where I stand.  I know where my beliefs stand.  And I know what lies in my heart.  My God knows these, too, and quite frankly that’s all that’s important.

I don’t dislike people for things over which they have no control (i.e. skin color, where they’re from, sexual orientation, etc) but what makes me dislike people is utter stupidity and a lack of compassion.  You want to be a bigot and unaccepting - that’s fine by me…just stay away from my door because, frankly, I have better things to do than to bang my head up against that particular brick wall.  There’s no way to have a healthy debate about a difference of opinions with someone who refuses to acknowledge that what is truth for them isn’t necessarily the truth for someone else.

I don’t claim to be a bible scholar - not by a long shot - but I seem to remember something about loving the sinner, and hating the sin.  Got news for you, buddy - we’re all sinners - that’s right, even you.  So get over yourself.

And for the sake of complete disclosure, you can find the ridiculousness right here.

Then, go read ohamanda’s post.

I didn’t even read his article. But I could tell I wouldn’t like it. I left my JKR comments on your other post.

Anyway, that’s what that whole sermon you linked to was about. Christians for too long have JUDGED and made others think we’re hypocritical and self-righteous. I wish Christians would spend more time on the good stuff and not the bad.

I read a post by a blogger who was at the Carnegie Hall reading where JKR answered the qn. about Dd. The blogger didn’t say anything pro/con about it but her final comment was, “And my kids got some unexpected sex ed.” And that’s what bothers me about it. WHY? Why did she have to mention it now? It just causes questions for sheltered kids and uproar for others. I think she did it on purpose.

    Again, my 2cents.

And that’s the reason I linked to that particular blog you wrote. (And just for the record, I hope none of the crazies show up - if they do, you have my most sincere apologies.) And I agree completely - frankly, the judgmental attitudes are one of the reasons I stopped going to church for so many years. (I haven’t been lately, either, but that’s due to the 72-hour on nights work week.)

I’m not sure how listening to Rowling tell how Dumbledore was gay constitutes sex ed, but not having been privy to the event in person, I’m not going to venture down that road. (and I commented on the “she did it on purpose” thing in reply to your comment on the other blog.)

Thank you for the insightful comments! To me, this is what debate is all about. :-)

You know I never thought about Dumbledore’s love life so I think that was insightful on a kid to ask about it. His preference though doesn’t change the story for me, I still love it. Love your neighbor as yourself. The number one command. Yet Christians get so self-involved in their Christian bubble that only judgement seeps out, it’s a shame.

    Melisa,

Yeah, kids are pretty clever, it seems - I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember being anything close to that when I was a kid.

I don’t think the majority of Christians are so judgmental - not to the extent of this website, anyway (not my website, but the one I linked to). I don’t have numbers to back me up, but I honestly think it’s a minority of people who are creating the most havoc. It’s a phenomenon I noticed when I was in college where a few of the more vocal far-left created an atmosphere of discord on campus. The squeaky wheels get the grease, I guess.
