Happy Fasching!

By Keiti | November 11, 2007

Today marks the beginning of what’s known as Fasching - it’s basically the German-speaking countries version of Mardi Gras or Carnival and will last until Lent starts. I actually learned a few things I didn’t know about it this morning. I’ve always referred to it as Fasching, but its name depends on where you’re located. (The word Fasching is apparently down in Bavaria, where I was born, and Austria - which is funny, because I grew up in Frankfurt, which is in northern Germany, but I still never heard it referred to as anything else.) It also starts on different days for the same reason - I’ve always known 11/11 as the start date, but it can also start on January 7th.

Either way, it’s party time!

Except for me. I’ve still got crazy hours to work. :-)
