Christmas Blah Blahs
By Keiti | December 6, 2007
I had an essay all planned out to write and post this week, but here it is already Thursday, and it’s still not written. Getting back on a regular schedule hasn’t been as easy as I thought it would be and I’m still sleeping in fits and spurts and continually wake up at what I consider to be ungodly hours. If I could just manage to stay awake during the day and forgo my afternoon “naps” (which really can’t be considered as such since they generally last two or more hours), I’d probably be okay. I just haven’t hit it yet. Which means I can’t be motivated to do much of anything that requires brain power. And that includes writing.
I don’t know how many of my readers are in Florida, but if you’re like me, you simply can’t get into the Christmas spirit. Christmas is supposed to be cold and wintery not sunny and warm. Since I only moved down to Florida in 1989, I remember full well what it’s like to have snow on Christmas. And Christmas simply isn’t Christmas without snow. Add to that a general crankiness from lack of sleep and hormones..well, let’s just say there’s nothing even remotely resembling the Christmas spirit, unless you count the ghosts of Christmases past.
So last night, in an effort to get myself out of the Florida funk, I popped a couple of Pamprin and put on White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye - one of my favorite Christmas movies ever.
It helped. A little. Hopefully the spirit will come over me soon and I’ll be back to my annoying cheerful Christmas self.
Hey, Floridians…Help me out here…what do you do to get yourself in the Christmas spirit?

It’s a little easier to get in the mood up here in N. Central Florida- the leaves actually fall off the trees here and we get about a week or two of freezing weather a year. We had two frost days a coupla weeks ago.
Being born in the glorious little town you’re livin’ in right now and livin’ there for 22 some odd years- that was a little different. I totally understand your plight and sympathize with you completely.
Music is always a good motivator. Also pretending it was cold and drinking hot chocolate with friends at Denny’s (geez, is the Denny’s on US1 still there?!) was always a good time.
Putting lights up on the outside of the house helped quite a bit- garish multicolored blinky lights tho- not the prissy little white lights of Martin Downs…
Lisa’s sand angels sound cool although I never did that when I lived down there. Hmmm…will have to try that next time I’m back there in the spring.

Stace ~
It was absolutely b*r*u*t*a*l down here today. Hopefully it’ll cool down a bit before Christmas actually arrives.
I have a feeling I’ll be heading out of state after the first of the year. I need me some snugglin’ weather.
Not that I have anyone to snuggle with, but that’s a completely different set of issues.
Great ideas! I’ll have to put them to use to see if they help.
And yes, the Denny’s is still open. Haven’t been but once, though, since I got back in town.
