*Tap* *Tap* *Tap* Is This Thing On?

By Keiti | December 13, 2007

My online friend ohamanda is having a great Christmas giveaway with some fun things to pass along.  All you have to do is write a post about your favorite themed-holiday-gift-giving that you’ve done and fill out the link section on the page linking your post to her page.  Or something like that.  So go participate, but before you do, my entry is below.

I tend not to do themed-gifts per se since everyone I know is so different in their likes and dislikes I don’t think I can pull it off effectively (although now I have next Christmas in Scotland to look forward to…)

Since I very rarely ever have a lot of money to spend on presents and because I’m the black sheep of the family, I put most of my creative efforts into either wrapping paper or cards, depending on the year.  I like to design my own stuff, paltry though it may be.  My first Christmas out in California I made and sent everyone black Christmas Cards (Did I mention something about being the black sheep already?) with stenciled lettering and objects in metallic colored pencils.  Whenever I neglect to get my cards done in enough time (like this year) I focus on wrapping paper - generally the most obnoxious paper that will stand out and scream, “This gift is from K.”

This year’s theme is plaid

Ohamanda, do decorative themes count? :-) :-)

Totally! I love creative wrapping! This year I was upset at how ugly the wrapping was at Target. Made me want to make my own! B/C I can make a pretty cool bow out of wrapping paper…hmmm, sounds like a blog post to me!

    Thanks for playing!

My entry stinks compared to everyone else’s. BUT no one else has sent out black Christmas Cards, so…

I may not win, but I’ll always have the black cards.

    Hey bebemiqui.

    Thanks for stopping by!

I do love making statements…The funny thing is that way back in the day I used to do them for shock value only. Now I do them because it’s just who I am.

That simple shift changed a great many things; not only other people’s reactions, but my own outlook, as well.

I put a lot into my wrapping paper and bows, too! I have to really keep myself in check or else I’d spend more on the wrapping than the actual gift.

I usually end up getting my feelings hurt when someone doesn’t acknowledge all my effort, too!
