It’s Official!

By Keiti | January 3, 2008

I posted yesterday well before the mail came - I almost wish I would have waited because I finally received (after weeks of waiting and watching the mail… it seemed like it was much longer), my official acceptance letter from the University of Stirling.  Below you will find a copy of it (albeit minus my full name, address, and the name of the person who signed it).

All things told, it only took about 3 weeks to arrive - not bad considering it was sent during the Christmas rush.  There’s a form I need to fill out and send back either accepting or declining their offer (I’ll be accepting…duh!), and they included a catalogue about the University itself as well as a trifold specifically about The Gothic Imagination programme I’ll be taking.

I did a bit of further research last night and discovered that the city of Stirling is relatively small (about 40,000 people) and the school itself boasts about 9500 students, 2500 of which are graduate-level.  I’m actually kind of relieved.  I didn’t check the school or city size when I applied (being more interested in the specific programme), and I’m happy that I won’t be simply a number at a huge university.  That’s one of the reasons I chose my alma mater for my BA - when I started there they had well under 1000 students and the student / instructor ratio was small, especially for upper-level courses - I took History of the Theatre I and II and the second class, as I recall, had about 8 students.  It was great.  So, I’m excited about not being completely left to my own devices and will have a pretty good support system when it comes to courses.

Now I get to fully concentrate on finding funding.  I’ve been trying to tell myself that getting accepted was the hard part - that once I got accepted everything else would happen.  Let’s hope that logic stays true.
