All Aboard!

I did something today I never thought I’d do.
I booked a cabin aboard the Queen Mary 2.
How incredibly cool is that?
Even though I’ve flown my entire life, I’m not a happy flier. And since this trip to Scotland is really a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, I wanted to do something a bit extravagant to celebrate.
And despite the fact that I’m bunking up in the white-trash equivalent of a stateroom (if I may use such a crude analogy to refer to the Queen Mary 2), I think it’s going to be an absolute blast.
Does anyone know of a good, all-natural remedy for motion sickness?

One long, long summer back in 1998, Tim worked on a cruise ship that floated up and down the Inside Passage off the coast of Alaska. He worked playing drums for a small big band as part of the ship’s entertainment.
He said that the Filipinos (who worked all the real crap jobs on the ship) ate green apples to help fight some of the nausea associated with cruising out in the ‘wild waters’ of the Pacific. One of the guys he made friends with hipped him to that trick and Tim said it worked fairly well.
Tim also said that Meclizine (given away for free by the handfuls all over the ship) worked better but obviously not “natural” as green apples would be.
The cool thing about most of those big ships is that they speed up at night (to make up on time) while everyone is asleep so that not as many people get sick from the larger up/down motion caused by speed. But, remember, he was on a little ship, the Nordam (part of Holland America), which was called the “tug of the fleet.” The QE2 is GIA-GAN-TI-CON so you probably won’t even notice any motion at all!
One other word of advice from T: tip the cleaning staff well- they are in charge of keeping your little cabin clean and will take good care of you if you do.
Dang! I’m so jealous- you are going to have SUCH a flippin’ good time!!

Hey Stacey!
I knew green apples were good for yucky stomachs, but for some reason I never thought about it in association with motion sickness.
Which makes me wonder if ginger would work just as well?
I haven’t heard about Meclizine - I’m just so weird about taking any kind of pills (except Aspirin, Pamprin, and Vitamins…ha ha ha), but I’ll take a look at it, too.
I so can’t wait to go! In some ways I wish I was traveling with someone, but I’m so used to traveling alone, it’s not going to be a huge deal - it would just be cool to share the experience with someone.
*shrug*
eh…
