The Bible According to Misfit
By Keiti | February 5, 2008
Welcome to a new feature I’m going to add to my blog - The Bible According to Misfit.
I’ve been thinking about how I’ve neglected my spiritual life over the past couple of weeks - I’ve been so caught up in going to Scotland and the day-to-day craziness that I’ve put it on the back burner. Two things instigated my decision to include Bible-related posts on my blog.
The first has to do with grad school - I’ve been considering different topics of study and I have them narrowed down to three: 1 - Gothic Children’s Literature, Folklore/Fairy Tales, and Gothic imagery in the Bible.
*enter the sound of a needle scratching over a record*
Yes, that’s right - Gothic imagery in the Bible. I can hear the screaming protests now, but yes there is plenty of Gothic imagery in the Bible: plagues, pestilence, piercing, outcasts, the concept of damnation, the devil, chaos, destruction, magic (miracles), cannibalism (the transmutation of the sacrament), the evil that human beings do to each other - and those are just the ones off the top of my head.
The other prodding was from a post by ohamanda about reading the Bible more - she always has great insight which is what brought me to her site in the first place.
So, I thought I’d kick off these posts by giving you a little background of what I believe:
1. I believe in God
2. I believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins
3. I believe that creationism and evolution are not mutually exclusive
4. I believe that people use the Bible as an excuse to inflict great pain on other human beings
5. I believe that everyone’s path to God takes different forms
6. I believe that there is a very big difference between being spiritual and being religious
7. I believe being spiritual is far more important than being religious
So those are my basics and my jumping off point. I haven’t decided what, if any, order I’ll be approaching topics.
Knowing me, I’ll be flying by the seat of my pants, as usual.

I’m going to be very interested in what you have to say!
(btw, I just realized I’m way behind on your blog…maybe my bloglines isn’t working right…)

There hasn’t been too much going on around these here parts - unless you count the fact that I’ve been an anxiety-riddled freak.
