Heeelllooo, Indy

So, I motivated myself to go see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on opening night.
Being in a small town, the experience wasn’t ripe with creature comforts (read: stadium seating - a must-have since I’m short) but it was fabulous in the fact that there weren’t a ton of people. Prices weren’t any better, though.
Anyway, I wish I could say I fell in love with this one, but it just didn’t grab me the way Raiders of the Lost Ark did back in the day. It was definitely better than Temple of Doom, though, that’s for damn sure.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but the movie was either moving along at the speed of stop or galavanting full speed ahead - the whole pace was off in a big way. Cate Blanchett’s Russian accent wasn’t consistent and the overall acting seemed a bit stilted and forced. Which is weird because all of them (including Shia Labeouf) have extensive acting experience.
There were some great one-liners, and the action sequences were great fun, but they don’t make up for the slow bits.
The best part of the movie was John Hurt playing Professor Oxley who, for reasons I won’t get into because of spoilerland, was a bit mad (as in insane); all I could think of was Shakespeare’s mad King Lear.
He was wonderful!
All-in-all, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is worth a watch, but it’s better if you go in without holding it up in comparison.
