Memorial Day Thoughts

By Keiti | May 26, 2008

I motivated myself to go watch the Memorial Day Parade in downtown Manitowoc this morning.  And I did exactly what I always do which is cry.

I swear I’m the only person I know of who cries at parades.  Or I would be if my mom hadn’t told me she does the same thing.

I guess it comes from having grown up in the military, but I can’t hear military songs without getting teary-eyed - it doesn’t matter if they’re Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines.  I see G.I.s in BDUs and I sniffle.  But what did it for me today was the horse-drawn coffin and the riderless horse with the boots facing backwards in the stirrups.

Military service members past, present, and future deserve our thanks and our respect.

Period.
