Culinary Treats

Even though there was plenty to do aboard the Queen Mary 2, I didn’t do any of it.  Not even dining in the Britannia Restaurant which is where my cabin dictated I eat.  Initially, I was just concerned about motion sickness (add to that an already-existing phobia I affectionately refer to as “pukephobia” [officially called "emetophobia"]) but then I really got accustomed to enjoying meals in my cabin.

The food aboard the Queen Mary 2, at least from room service, was good.  Not exceptionally to die for, but I didn’t have anything that came even remotely close to being bad.

The room service menu didn’t have much variety, but it served nicely for lunches or evening meals.  Breakfast could be ordered separately by hanging a notice on the outside of your cabin door.  It was all very efficient and the room service staff was all-around incredibly gracious and nice.

Here’s a run-down of some of the food I enjoyed:

Mediterranean Salad with Parma ham, olives, Feta cheese, cucumber, red onions, and tomatoes over mixed greens with Basil dressing and pita bread.  The only down side to the Mediterranean Salad was the fact that it was a bit salty - I tend not to use a lot of salt in my day-to-day life, so it may not be as salty to someone who uses salt liberally.

QM2 Club Sandwich - an interesting double-layered club sandwich with scrambled egg, bacon (american), turkey, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.   This was normally accompanied by a side salad that consisted of lettuce (I think spring lettuce), onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers with what I believe was a pesto dressing, but the second time I asked for french fries.

Oriental Chicken Noodle Soup - broth-based with asian noodles, plenty of chicken, green onions and a smattering of lettuce.  I wasn’t sure about this when I decided to try it; sometimes westernized asian food is dreadful, but this was really good - not overly salty and the different tastes blended well together.

Mixed Cheese Platter & Crackers - this was probably one of my favorites as I’m a huge fan of cheese and crackers.  Moreso cheese as I’m basically a cheese whore, but let’s not go there.  :-)  This came with blue cheese, brie, swiss, cheddar, various types of crackers and grapes.

Double chocolate brownie with chocolate flakes and vanilla swirl - even though it didn’t mention it in the description aboard ship, it also came with raspberry swirl mixed in with the vanilla and was garnished by a couple of blueberries and a strawberry.  I don’t normally eat sweets, but chocolate anything is definitely my downfall.  This is actually the only desert I ordered.  I enjoyed it so much I ordered it twice.
