This Is It…

By The Misfit | July 14, 2009

The end stretch – I have officially completed drafts for all of my chapters (4 of them), and have now begun working on my re-writes.  I know this dissertation is not going to turn out the way I’d originally planned, but that’s typical.  I still need to write my Introduction and Conclusion, so I need to start planning those, as well.  They’re relatively short – only 1500 words each (as opposed to 3000 word chapters), so they shouldn’t be too overly difficult.

I hope.

Today I hope to wrap up re-writing the first chapter I wrote – this is the one I had the most trouble with and will, I’ve no doubt, be my weakest chapter overall.  Tomorrow is going to be a free day because of Harry Potter (I’ve essentially declared it the equivalent of a national holiday), then back to work on Thursday.  If I can manage to get all of my re-writes done by the middle of next week (if not sooner), I’ll be in really good shape.

In a way, this is the hardest writing I’ve ever done – I’m essentially writing a short book, which I’ve never attempted before, so finding the tie-ins between chapters, and perfecting everything is nearly overwhelming.  One of the reasons I’ve never tried to write a book of any sort (novel included) is because of the overwhelming-ness of it all.  I’ve written far more words for a project than 15000 words (an average script, or at least my average script runs 21000 + words), but it’s a wholly different type of writing.  At any rate, it’s good practice for future endeavors, which, like my dissertation topic, are top secret at the moment.

I still haven’t forgotten my promise to fill everyone in, but I want it to be done before I say anything.  It’s not as if a number of people don’t already know, but I guess I feel that announcing it to the world will jinx it.

Superstitious of me, I know.

Anyway, need to get to work.

Everyone have a wonderful Tuesday.

I’ll be chained to my computer.

:-)
