The Deed Is Done

By The Misfit | August 9, 2009

No, I didn’t stab anyone.  Or commit hari-kari.  Both of which I thought about occasionally, but if I’d acted on either thought I’d either A) be in jail or B) be dead, which means I’d have no internet access and wouldn’t be writing this blog.

The deed is my dissertation.  It’s done.  Complete.  Finish.  It’s not perfect and I have a love/hate relationship with it, depending on which day you ask me, but it’s still done.

I get to print it out and turn it in tomorrow, right on schedule.

In other news, my parents are currently in Dublin.  As in Ireland.  As in I’m completely green with envy (and, no, that was not meant to be a Irish joke).  I made my mom promise to pick me up a cool tote bag if she could find something since I won’t be able to join them.  They’ll be here on Wednesday morning sometime and we’ll leave on Thursday to start our travel.

You know, grad school has been insane.  Seriously stressful.  And sometimes I wondered if it was all worth it.  I’ve made mistakes.  I’ve sworn I was going to flunk out.  I stressed over each damn essay to write and nearly drove myself batty.

But now that all my work is officially over, I can begin to look back and think about all the very cool things I’ve accomplished over the year, including my dissertation.  I’ve crafted projects with a larger word count (my one completed screenplay runs over 21,000 words and my dissertation is about 15, 400 – which is over word count by 400 words), but writing it was probably one of the most insanity-inducing and extraordinarily cool learning process bit of writing I’ve ever done.  I did everything completely ass-backwards, of course, but I did it.  And that makes me happy.

So, now on to the next thing.  No idea what that is yet, but we’ll see.  I have a month to think about it.  :-)
