8 Years Later
By The Misfit | September 11, 2009
When the QM2 was sailing into port in the wee hours of 4 September 2009, the Manhattan Skyline illuminated everything around it. Conspicuously missing, of course, were the twin towers – a gaping wound in the skyline welcoming me home after my year abroad. I thought about September 11th 2001, where I was, what I was doing, and the inevitable aftermath that followed – the brief moment in time when Americans and the vast majority of other countries tightened their relationships over a common cause only to have it disintegrate into political turmoil. Eight years later I only have two things to say:
1 – the divide over political differences is ridiculous and we all need to get over it
and
2 – terrorists hailing from any part of the world can piss off
Spend time remembering today because forgetting the past will ensure repeating it. I don’t know who said that, and I’m too lazy to look it up, but it must never happen again.
